Video:Unassisted Childbirth

This is a nice video by Laura Shanley who wrote the book “Unassisted Childbirth” and runs the site www.unassistedchildbirth.com. The concept of not using a doctor or midwife at all makes so much sense when you come to terms with the fact that a woman’s body already knows how to give birth and will do best when left alone.

This point is made in a very dramatic way if you watch hospital birth videos side by side with home birth videos. Thank you Laura!

  1. i would like to say that no mother to be should have an unassisted birth. what happens if some thing went wrong, they have no equipment to immediatly deal with that situation and what happens if there carelessness ended up with there baby dieing they need to think about there actions and do the right thing by there child

  2. @sheenade:

Your sentiments are fairly common sheenade, which is why unassisted childbirth is still fairly rare. Proponents of UC feel that most routine childbirth interventions performed by birth attendants interfere with the process of birth and cause harm to the mother, the baby or both.

The odds of interventions in childbirth with an attendant is 100%, while the odds of something suddenly “going wrong” that cannot be diagnosed in advance, such as breech presentation or placenta previa, is very rare. In the event that something unforeseen happens, women simply transfer to the hospital.

  3. This is a beutiful video, which is helped by the serene background music. If unassisted child birth came with guarantees it would be perfect, however in the real world there is so much that coulld go wrong and I feel that it is a bit scary to go down that route.

  4. this is foolishness i think, Not recommending doctor at the time of need is just a foolishness, something could really go wrong if you don’t pay serious attention to them

  5. yeah i agree with sheenade, this is totally foolishness and its like taking chance on a child’s birth which is the most precious thing to be taken care off.

  6. this is really foolishness, how can you take chance in such a critical condition where it is a question of your infant’s life.

  7. we should never take such chances for our own sake, such things should only be cared under medical preservation.

  8. I am amazed at the guts of women who can take this decision and go through it. I mean it is a natural process but it can also be dangerous for both mother and the child, especially the first time mother. Even if a doctor is not needed, it gives a mental peace that nothing will go wrong.
