The AMA recently passed a resolution to “ban homebirth” as a response to the Ricki Lake documentary, The Business of Being Born. The AMA is a medical association designed to protect the interests of medical doctors (not birthing mothers) so not only is there a blatant and inherent conflict of interest in their wishes, but they simply do not have the authority to ban anything. Seriously, are these yahoos going to try to tell us where we can have sex too? The only thing their resolution is going to accomplish is to bring more attention to the subject of homebirthing.
